To celebrate conservation week, Experiencing Marine Reserves (EMR) is organising a free Community Guided Snorkel Day at Reotahi from 10am till 3pm on Sunday the 1st November.
The theme for conservation week is ‘Healthy Nature Healthy People’
The event is supported by NZAEE Northland, the Tindall Foundation and the Department of Conservation. Hansen’s have kindly donated a gazebo for the event.
Explore the waters of the Whangarei Harbour Marine Reserve at Reotahi with an experienced snorkel guide; you never know what you might spot? Discover pipefish, triplefins or nudibranchs. Fun for the whole whanau and a great way to gather information to enter the DOC Habitat hero competition for conservation week. Register at the event on the day. Sea conditions permitting. Postponements on our website and facebook page
Bring your own gear or get free hire of our mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuits. Recommended for everyone 5 years and up. All children under 15 years must be accompanied by an adult beach observer. Experienced guides and advanced safety procedures will be in place on the day.
How to get there:
Head out to Whangarei Heads. After McLeods Bay follow Reotahi Rd, then Beach Rd to the end and up to the Reotahi carpark, opposite Motukaroro Island and Marsden Point.
