Come and get your snorkel on and experience the underwater wonders of the Kāpiti Marine Reserve and the incredible birdlife and bush of the Kāpiti Island Nature Reserve at this fun, adventurous, family event brought to you by the Mountains to Sea Wellington Trust and Experiencing Marine Reserves with support from the DoC Community Fund and the Guardians of Kāpiti Marine Reserve.
Meeting at the Kāpiti boating club at 7-45am, you will be transported across the Te Rau-o-Te-Rangi channel to Rangatira Point, Kāpiti island on the ferry Te Aihe where your adventure begins....
Once on the island, our snorkel guides will help you explore the spectacular underwater world of the Kāpiti marine reserve where you might see octopus, eagle rays, reef fish such as the Red Moki and Banded Wrasse, Paua, kina, starfish, sea cucumbers and many other interesting and unique NZ marine animals and plants thriving in the reserves protected waters.
After you've completed your snorkel adventure you will have plenty of time to relax on the beach or head inland to explore the interior of the island via DoC's well marked walking tracks that take you through stunning native bush that is teeming with NZ's most iconic and rare native bird life.
The ferry will return to Rangatira point at 3.30pm ready to take you back to the mainland after your day of incredible adventures in our great big blue and green backyard!
New snorkelers are encouraged. All equipment, guides and safety gear is provided.
This event is organised by the Mountains to Sea Wellington Trust - an endorsed provider of the national Experiencing Marine Reserves programme - in association with the Guardians of Kāpiti Marine reserve and with support from the DoC Community fund.
While the event is provided free to the community, there is a ticket charge of $43 per child and $80 per adult (plus eventbrites booking fee) to cover the cost of the Kāpiti Island ferry transport to and from the island where the event is being held.
Note: The minimum age for the snorkeling is 8 years, and children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a snorkeling adult. A reasonable level of fitness is required to participate in this event and participants should be in overall good health. An online participant medical disclosure statement will be required to be completed prior to participating in this event. See your ticket purchase confirmation email for the link to this form.

Cancellation policy - If the ferry cannot sail due to poor weather then the event will be cancelled and a full refund given. In the event that the ferry can sail but the conditions are not suitable for snorkeling (highly unlikely) then the event will still run with shore based marine activities available and the walking tracks all still open for exploration and adventure.
