Explore Maitai Bay with our experienced snorkel guides. Learn about marine life and the Rāhui that Te Whānau Moana Me Te Rorohuri have put in place, and what positive changes it has made to the bay. You may spot many different reef fish and triplefins.
Fun for the whole whānau. Bring your own gear or get free hire of our mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuits.
No need to pre-register for the event - just come along on the day and register at our tent ANYTIME between 10am and 2:30 pm!
Recommended for everyone 5 years and up. All children under 15 years must be accompanied by an adult beach observer. Experienced guides and advanced safety procedures will be in place on the day. Koha/donations welcome.

Sea conditions permitting. Postponements will be announced through our website and facebook page. Back-up day is the 21st of January.
Directions:
Maitai Bay is located on the outer Karikari Peninsula, on Maitai Bay Road, about 44 km northeast of Kaitaia. From Kaitaia, head north on SH1 until you reach Awanui, then turn right onto SH10. Continue on SH10 for 14.6 km, then turn left onto Inland Road. Continue along Inland Road for 15 km, then turn left onto Maitai Bay Rd and continue for 5 km. The Maitai Bay Campsite entrance is signposted on your right. Note: You travel 2 km on a gravel road.
