This event is designed to help train our volunteers for the upcoming season and to provide a refresher for our existing crew. Whether you are new this season or you feel like you need some additional training all are welcome. Senior guides from last season are appreciated to help with the afternoon in water training.

COVID info:
In order to participate in person as a volunteer for any of our events (including training days) you will be required to provide proof of vaccination via the My vaccine pass. Volunteers under 12 years old are exempt, however they must be accompanied by a fully vaccinated parent or guardian. Masks and social distancing will be encouraged where practical. When you register you will have the option to attend any part of the following.
10:00am to 10:30am - Icebreaker and introduction to EMR
10:30am to11:30pm - Workshop on karakia and briefings.
11:30pm to 1:30pm - Lake based sessions: Kayak safety, guiding a group, rescue scenarios, swim test. *
1.30pm to 2.00pm - Lunch (BYO), Volunteering Q&A
*Snorkelling gear and wetsuit will be provided for those who do not have their own
We will cover the following during the training (all components will be hosted outdoors):
- Brief overview of EMR (more in depth presentation will be shared prior to event)
- How to give a briefing/ karakia
- How to kit up participants
- Leading a group
- Rescue scenarios
- Kayak safety
You will be marked and given a score which will give you your role for the upcoming season.

Please note that we will give you feedback and help you further your skills throughout the season. What ever role you have initially is just a starting point!
