Departing from the Sandy Bay wharf, Rakino Island we have a limited number of spots to Otata for a snorkel trip.
About this event
As a follow on from our Talk n Snork on the 15th of January, we have a special invitation for Rakino locals to visit Otata Island, part of The Noises chain from the Neureuter whānau. Experiencing Marine Reserves will lead a snorkel after a short tour and introduction to the island by Sue Neureuter. A huge thank you to Auckland Unlimited for funding this event.

Please note that these spots are only for those wanting to snorkel at Otata. Unfortunately on this trip we won't have space for spectators. You need a reasonable level of fitness to be able to pull yourself back onto the vessel from the water without a ladder.

Vaccination certificates via My Vaccine Pass are required to participate. Minimum age for the activity is 8.

An access code will be provided to Rakino locals. If you aren't a local we will have our Inner Gulf Snorkel Day going live soon - which will depart from Waiheke Island.

When:

Saturday 19th of February 2022

7am – Meet at the Sandy Bay Wharf, Rakino Island in your togs with your gear pest proofed.

7:30am - Guided snorkel

10:30am - Welcome to the island by Sue

11am - Depart Otata for Rakino

Bring your own gear (3mm long suit recommended) or get free hire* of our mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuits. * You must pre register with sizing to get equipment - so that we can bring it from the mainland. Experienced guides and advanced safety procedures will be in place on the day.

Te Kura Moana - Experiencing Marine Reserves runs a series of free and subsidised events over the summer months - we rely on your support to make them happen. We appreciate donations, either cash/eftpos on the day, online or by giving a koha of your time volunteering at a future event. Some people donate $5-10pp.

Participants under 12 years of age will need to be accompanied by a fully vaccinated parent or guardian. All participants will need to use face coverings and distance where practical. Please bring the QR code for My Vaccine Pass on your phone or printed to be scanned & verified on the event. You will need to bring photo ID.
