Explore the waters of Waitaramoa/Hobson Bay by kayak, launching from Te Tinana beach! Learn about what makes this bay special and how we can look after this precious marine ecosystem. This event is run in collaboration with Hapua Thrive and is generously funded by Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa and The Bobby Stafford Bush Foundaiton.

This event provides a taster into kayaking, freshwater monitoring and a short guided walk - expect to spend ~50mins on the water kayaking. Fun for the whole whānau – minimum age of 8. Kayaking equipment is provided for free.

Sea and water quality conditions permitting.

Te Kura Moana - Experiencing Marine Reserves runs a series of free and subsidised events over the summer months - we rely on your support to make them happen. We appreciate donations, either cash/eftpos on the day, online or by giving a koha of your time volunteering at a future event. Some people donate $5-10pp.

Children younger than 8 will not be able to participate. Children aged 8-12 need to have a confident adult in the back of their kayak. Children under 16 need an adult companion. Max weight of 120kg for kayaking.

Registrations are essential (spaces limited).

Cancellation policy: If you give less than 24hrs notice when cancelling your registration or you no show without a valid excuse (i.e COVID, or other illness) then you may be sent an invoice of $20 per person.
